UnderwriteMe, the UK's largest Insure-tech company.

Challenge: UnderwriteMe faced the challenge of rapidly expanding its frontend engineering team to meet the growing demands of its innovative insurance technology solutions. They needed to hire highly skilled React engineers who could not only meet the technical requirements of a new project, but also align with the company's mission and culture.

Our Approach

We recognise that hiring and retaining the right talent is crucial for a technology-driven company like UnderwriteMe. To address their specific needs, we implemented a comprehensive, re-usable hiring strategy that included a specialist interviewing framework and a custom programming challenge.

We worked directly with UnderwriteMe's internal teams - gathering technical requirements for the role as well as 'softer' requirements such as cultural fit. As part of this process we conducted a deep dive review of their codebases to get a good understanding of the project the candidates would be working on, to better inform the questions we would be asking.

Providing Feedback

Throughout the interview process, we used a nifty tool called Evidenced to run our interviews. This software hosted our interviews and also recorded them (with the candidate's permission). It allowed us to add real time comments to specific stages of the interview. Afterwards, they are presented as a timeline, which interviewers can click through to see exactly what happened in the interview at that moment. This is great for highlighting concerns, red flags and also situations when something just went really well.

All of our notes, decisions, general feedback and interview recordings were made entirely public to the team at UnderwriteMe - this transparency gave them peace of mind and invaluable insight into how they could run interviews in the future, after our engagement.

In addition to this, we provided detailed feedback to candidates, helping them understand their strengths and areas for improvement. This approach not only ensured further transparency but also enhanced the candidate experience, reflecting positively on UnderwriteMe's employer brand.
